Physical fitness plays a big role in the Navy's ability to carry out operational tasks, often in challenging conditions and that's why it's such an important part of each member's daily routine.
Once you're working in the Navy there will be times when you'll need to perform tasks, like Submarine Escape Drills, Helicopter Underwater Escape Drills and Combat Survival Training, which fall outside of your normal physical strength. By remaining physically conditioned you'll be able to perform these tasks safely and effectively.
Most importantly, you need your fitness to fight and win in the maritime environment.
Maintaining your fitness isn't just important for your role in the Navy, there are countless other benefits. You'll enjoy improved sleep, enhanced concentration, more effective weight control, improved resistance to disease and more rapid and effective acclimatisation. Your confidence levels will increase, as will your morale, motivation, discipline and willpower. Physical fitness is also a great guard against stress.
Before you can officially enlist in the Navy, you'll need to pass the Pre-Enlistment / Appointment Fitness Assessment (PFA). Find out what's specifically involved in the assessment and how to prepare to ensure you've got the best chance of passing.
